With Ed Reed's status in limbo and two other cornerbacks -- Lardarius Webb and Fabian Washington -- working their way back from ACL injuries suffered last season, the Baltimore Ravens' secondary took another hit at the start of training camp.

WNST in Baltimore initially reported that Domonique Foxworth, a cornerback entering his sixth year in the NFL, tore his ACL during a non-contact practice Thursday night.

Ravens coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed the injury on Friday, saying Foxworth was injured without being touched.

The injury means Foxworth, who had four interceptions last year, will miss the entire 2010 season, which leaves an already thin secondary in major need of help before the season opener.

I liked this team as a possible superbowl contender but now not sure with the luck they've been having so far

I wonder if they are forced to play Reed at CB if he's able to come back. Seems like they have some depth at safety and already prepping to play without him with the acquisition of Hamlin. Not sure what their other options are...maybe find a diamond in the rough street free agent?

Reed will start the season on the PUP list from everything I've been hearing unless a minor miracle strikes in the next month.
Not much depth to speak of at all with this unit and has been the weak spot of the D for quite sometime now.

I have high hopes for this team this year but it's very hard to win when your corners are very weak.Could be alot of shootouts looming this year.

The rumors I've been reading is they are looking at Fred Smoot and Frank Walker. The one glaring weakness this team did little to address was CB and free safety. They knew they had no depth at CB, and no coverage hound at free. Did I hear that Rod Woodson was running with TO and OCHO out in Cinci? Wonder if he's got anything left? Man knew how to cover.

Could the Ravens trade McGahee for a starting CB? If I'm the Baltimore GM, I'm certainly considering it.

Possible trade partners...
Seattle
Washington (just kidding)

Actually looking around the league, I don't see too many teams that would be interested other than Seattle. It's possibly the best trade bait that the Ravens have though.

maybe Miami? I've heard they are taking it slow with Ronnie Brown, and also that Will Allen might be on his last leg there...if they are taking it slow with Brown, and Ricky is 43, they might consider ANYBODY who can take some carries

Free agent cornerback Frank Walker(notes) has been with the Baltimore Ravens for the past two seasons and the word from National Football Post is that the team has had "ongoing discussions" with him about a possible return.

However, the site reports that Walker has other interested teams and one of them is "believed" to be the Indianapolis Colts.

The Ravens are in need of someone at corner now that Domonique Foxworth(notes) has gone down for the year with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

"Sure, Frank would have a shot," Ravens coach John Harbaugh told NFP. "Frank knows our scheme. He's got some options, teams he's talking to right now. He's one guy of a lot of guys we're looking at."

Another player Harbaugh mentioned as a possibility is Shawn Springs(notes). And Fred Smoot(notes) and Anthony Henry(notes) "have also been mentioned as potential candidates," NP reports.

Walker had 16 tackles last year and one interception but NFP notes that the Ravens thought drew too many penalties last year.

Quote

The Ravens surprisingly cut cornerback Walt Harris just eight days into training camp.

The team replaced him with Chris Hawkins, an undrafted rookie cornerback out of LSU who was recently released by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Harris, 35, struggled to pass the team's conditioning test. He said he had a sore Achilles tendon. Harris then frequently missed practices this past week.

The Ravens signed Harris in June to add depth to their cornerback group. He intially declined the Ravens' veteran minimum offer. The Ravens then increased the deal with incentives to sign him.

It doesn't look too promising for a player when a team that is desperate for a corner back gives one the pink slip.
