From Yahoo:

RF Ryan Ludwick, one of the National League's top early-season hitters, was out of the Cardinals' starting lineup. Rookie Colby Rasmus, who hadn't started since last Friday, got the nod in place of Ludwick and had a double and single in three at-bats. Ludwick's 21-game hitting streak had ended on Tuesday. "I'm sure our fans will have some fun with it," said manager Tony La Russa, referring to the furor resulting from the last time he omitted Ludwick. "But he's got the next four (games) this week." Then La Russa joked, "You've got to pay the consequences. No hits, you don't play."

I don't know, that sounds vindictive. Super secret one-game probation for unknown rules infraction?

We understand that Tony La Russa is trying to find playing time for four starting-caliber outfielders, but it makes little sense that he's now benching his second-best hitter for the fourth time in 15 games. On a positive note, La Russa said that Ludwick will start each of the next four games, but on most other teams that would be a foregone conclusion. Colby Rasmus is getting the start in right field on Wednesday.
