Bob Griese:

Quote

“I know the future is taken care of because I’ve seen Ryan Tannehill, and I think he’s the real deal,” Griese told Craig Davis of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “I like Ryan Tannehill because of his athletic ability and his skill and his future. It’s just a matter of when for Ryan. He’s going to make it. I’ve watched him.”

Isn't it sad to see denial and illusions that concussions contribute to? Roto:

David Garrard is listed as the first-team quarterback on the Dolphins' first official depth chart.
Virtually every observer that has been to Miami's camp has pegged Garrard as the leader of this this three-way battle. Now the Dolphins have made it official. Heading into preseason action, the Week 1 job is Garrard's to lose while Matt Moore could end up as trade bait. Either way, impressive first-rounder Ryan Tannehill figures to get under center sooner rather than later. Garrard is 34 and was out of football last season.

Tannehill will be the guy eventually, but I've been avoiding all Dolphins WR's due to the QB situation.

Down goes Garrard, he will have knee scoped and is out indefinitely.

Gerrard will be back before opener it sounds like. Roto:

Starting with David Garrard (knee scope) sidelined, Matt Moore was shaky in Friday's preseason opener, completing 7-of-12 passes for 79 yards and an interception.
Running behind Garrard in practice, Moore missed a big opportunity to make a good impression on his new coaching staff. No. 8 pick Ryan Tannehill didn't, however, coming on in relief of Moore to complete 14-of-21 throws for 167 yards and a score. With Garrard likely to miss at least two more preseason games, Moore will have more opportunities to set himself apart in the Dolphins' three-man race. But he's going to have to be much better than this.

Ryan Tannehill completed 14-of-21 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins' preseason opener against the Bucs.
He also rushed once for five yards. Playing off the bench behind Matt Moore, Tannehill's first drive led to a three-and-out, but the rookie got into a groove after that. He went 7-of-8 for 83 yards on a long scoring drive that was capped by a Charles Clay touchdown catch. Tannehill displayed the same poise against edge rushers that evaluators loved prior to the 2012 Draft, and showed a willingness to fit passes into tight windows between the numbers after his receivers sat in soft zones. It was an impressive first audition, but Tannehill will need to continue to build off of it throughout the rest of the preseason.

The Dolphins are expecting David Garrard's (knee surgery) timetable to be 3-4 weeks.
A 2-4 week timetable was originally announced. If Garrard is out for a full month, he won't return to the field until September 7 -- two days before the season opener in Houston. "Didn't bang it on anything, didn't fall on it or anything. Just maybe it's father time," said the 34-year-old Garrard.

The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero believes the Dolphins' quarterback competition has shown rookie Ryan Tannehill to be "the player quarterback-starved Miami fans have been longing for since Dan Marino."
"In the three weeks Tannehill has been in training camp," writes Salguero, "he has done nothing to suggest he will not be a star in the NFL." Rotoworld's Evan Silva notes that Tannehill has shown better than expected poise and ball placement while also elevating the play of the Dolphins' suspect receivers. The sentiment among several beat writers is that Tannehill's momentum will now carry him into the Week 1 starting job.

Tanehill gets the start this week, over Moore. Perhaps he'll have the job outright week one, Garrard might be gone? Roto:

The Palm Beach Post believes David Garrard (knee surgery) is more likely to reach an injury settlement than make the Dolphins final roster.
The Post reported early in the month that the loser of the Garrard-Matt Moore battle would likely become "expendable." Garrard's 3-4 week injury has taken him out of that competition. As a vested veteran, his $2.25 million salary becomes guaranteed if he's on the Week 1 roster. Now that Ryan Tannehill has emerged as a legit option to start the season opener, Garrard is expendable.

There's a "growing buzz" among the Palm Beach Post's league sources that Ryan Tannehill will soon be named the Week 1 starter.
Matt Moore might be more polished than Tannehill, but the rookie has shown excellent decision-making through three weeks of camp. He's yet to turn the ball over in two preseason games and led an impressive 15-play touchdown drive against the Panthers on Saturday night. Expect an official announcement shortly.

Why rush him? Everyone said he was raw coming out of college and all of a sudden he is ready to start in the NFL? It's not like you will win a bunch of games. With that WR core, Tennehill will be throwing pick after pick and taking sack after sack. Throw Moore to the wolves for the first 10 games or so and then start Tannehill.

Head coach Joe Philbin on Monday named rookie Ryan Tannehill the Dolphins' Week 1 starting quarterback.
It was the obvious choice after David Garrard's knee scope, followed by Matt Moore's back-to-back poor preseason performances. The No. 8 overall pick in the draft, Tannehill has displayed a quick release, strong decision making (0 turnovers), and in-pocket composure through two exhibition appearances. While Miami's weak supporting cast will limit Tannehill's 2012 fantasy appeal, he's a player to track closely in Dynasty leagues. He has good arm strength and athleticism, and that's a recipe for long-term fantasy success once the Dolphins acquire better wide receivers.
