The Nashville Tennessean's Jim Wyatt believes the Titans' starting quarterback job is now Jake Locker's to lose.
This is particularly notable because Wyatt was among the plugged-in writers predicting before training camp that the Titans would start Matt Hasselbeck to open the season. Locker hasn't been a star in practice or preseason games yet, but Hasselbeck hasn't capitalized and has largely struggled, particularly with interceptions. Locker can take another leap forward Friday night against a poor Tampa Bay defense. He'll be getting the start, and playing roughly 25 snaps in Tennessee's second exhibition game.

Locker looked terrible today. Roto:

Jake Locker completed 4-of-11 passes for 21 yards and an interception in the Titans' second preseason game Saturday night at Tampa Bay.
This was the first NFL start of Locker's career -- preseason or real -- and he struggled mightily. He airmailed a pass up for grabs on Tennessee's first possession, which Bucs S Ahmad Black easily secured and returned to the Titans' two-yard line. We had Locker down for 27 snaps. While he flashed his playmaking ability and athleticism on a 21-yard scramble to help set up one of Chris Johnson's touchdown runs, ultimately this was a step back for the young gunslinger. Locker's accuracy remained an issue, often missing high. Look for Matt Hasselbeck to start the Titans' third preseason game.

With the timeline squared away, Jim Wyatt of the Tennesseean reports that the Titans have made their choice, and they’re going with second-year quarterback Jake Locker.

There was a sense in Titans camp that Locker would have had to play his way out of the job, and despite a mighty effort Friday night, he apparently did not.

That means he’ll be under center Thursday against the Bucs, and then again on Sept. 9 against New England.

The Titans have named Jake Locker their starting quarterback.
One of fantasy's most important position battles is over as Locker beats out veteran Matt Hasselbeck. Locker has gone 11-of-24 for 101 yards with no touchdowns and one interception through two preseason games, but his arm strength, mobility and aggressiveness is tantalizing. During his final three bit appearances off the bench as a rookie last season, Locker averaged 15.9 yards per completion and scrambled eight times for 56 yards with a touchdown. With the Titans running a variation of the "Run 'N Shoot," Locker will start screaming up draft boards as a potential low-end QB1. He's been one of our favorite sleepers for months now.

I've been grabbing CJ and Cook whenever I can, I like them more with Locker.
