A source tells ProFootballTalk.com that Aaron Hernandez (ankle) could miss up to six weeks.
It's the standard timetable for the dreaded high-ankle sprain. Hernandez was spotted on crutches and in a boot after the game, further suggesting a serious injury. It's a devastating blow to the Patriots, who had centered their offense around their "move" tight end's unique skills. Look for demoted Wes Welker to now get back into the mix.

Heard Peter King saying this on SNF as well, he said "six weeks" pretty quickly.

I'd try to trade Brown or Collie and see if you can find a taker (I was thinking before week one about seeing if anyone wanted to do Collie for Moss straight across, I drafted Moss before news about him came out). If not, perhaps Brown is a drop for you. :(

Could you? Probably. I can't trade with you, but I waited on TE and took Celek and Cook back to back later. I'd trade you one of them (prolly Cook at this point) and sit on Hernandez until he came back. There are probably others like me.

Should you? My initial reaction was that you could find serviceable TEs on the wire, but you said you don't have the roster space. I'd have to look at your roster to see what I think.
I apologize in advance for the above post.

Same here, I have Tamme and Cook and I'd easily trade either if I could (also picked up Buffalo's guy last week)...I'm sure you could find other owners that would do that also. I'd wait and hold.

MRI for Hernandez this morning, apparently this isn't official yet (though multiple outlets are reporting it).

ESPN's James Walker reports that Aaron Hernandez (ankle) is definitely out for Week 3 against the Ravens and will not return before October, "at the earliest."
In other words, he's out for Week 4, as well, and playing in Week 5 against the Broncos would be a best-case scenario for Hernandez. The Patriots may lean on Wes Welker and Julian Edelman more in Hernandez's absence, increasing both slot receivers' fantasy prospects. Fantasy owners need to hang onto Hernandez and not drop him. He's a top-five tight end when healthy, and we wouldn't be surprised if the 22-year-old recovered quicker than expected.

A source tells the NFL Network that Aaron Hernandez is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a low ankle sprain.
This jibes with earlier reports from ProFootballTalk.com and ESPN Boston. If Hernandez returns in exactly a month, he'd be back for a Week 6 matchup with the Seahawks. If he misses the full six weeks, he's looking at Week 8 against the Rams. Note that the Patriots' bye is looming in Week 9. Hernandez, 22, does have youth on his side as he embarks on his rehab. We're not dropping him as he still projects as a difference-maker well before the fantasy playoffs.

Winslow signed

Quote

Patriots agreed to terms with TE Kellen Winslow, sources tell ESPN Boston.
The deal is pending a physical, which is no small caveat when it comes to Winslow. Although the 29-year-old hasn't missed a game due to injury since 2008, he's dealt with chronic soreness in his right knee for the last couple years. But if healthy, Winslow will provide an athletic pass-catching option for the Patriots while Aaron Hernandez (ankle) rehabs. Just one year ago, he caught 75 passes for 763 yards as a Buc. Winslow projects to quickly find his way onto the field for some reps in two-tight end sets, which the Patriots had been using as a base.

This isn't good news for those who have Wes welker and were hoping he would get on the field and be in the gameplay....Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Reporting on Kellen Winslow's release, ESPN's Adam Schefter adds that it "sounds like" Aaron Hernandez's ankle is "healing quicker than expected."
Hernandez's best-case scenario to return from a mild high-ankle sprain was set at Week 5, and it looks like he may have a shot at hitting that mark. Although he has shed his walking boot, Hernandez has yet to practice this week. The Patriots square off against the Broncos next week and the Seahawks in Week 6.

Another report had no boot, no limp. They released Winslow today.

Not buying it in the slightest.

Reports I've read are that they have nothing to do with each other. Winslow had major pain in his reconstructed knee and *requested* release. If he were healthy he'd still be a Patriot. Especially in light of Edelman's (broken) hand and not practicing. Remember - KW failed his physical before the season & had just been released. He shut himself down this time.

As guarded as the Pats are with Injury reports and info you always have to question when they release any info, and especially positive info. I knew this well when Deion Branch blew out his knee & was listed as "probable" or "questionable" for the next 8 weeks - primping the NFL to install new rules. .

Hernandez is not coming back in week 4 and likely not in week 5 either. Then you need to look at the BYE - is it week 7? Yeah - expect him back week 8 with a pile of horseshit like this coming out every week.

This ain't my 1st BBQ.

Just sayin.

And I say this owning Hernandez in 2 leagues, so obviously I want him back.

But just because I was born at night doesn't mean I was born last night.

Agree with the sentiment/thoughts--the fact they are implying he might play confirms he's not going to...

I wanted to post because there hasn't been much that can make me laugh the past 3 months with all the things going on personally... but these two posts were hi-larious. Thank you..

Aaron Hernandez (ankle) made a surprising return to Patriots practice on Thursday.
Hernandez started practice with a limp, but looked more comfortable while running drills a few minutes later. He's clearly at less than peak agility. NFL Network's Albert Breer reported earlier in the day that Hernandez is a "virtual certainty" to sit out Sunday's game versus the Broncos. Even if that report is correct, Hernandez is at least on track to return next week versus the Seahawks.

All reports are that he's out this week And was practicing with a noticeable limp.

Sounds like he's shaking the conwebs out & allowing Bilicheat to list him as "questionable".

I think he comes back next week IF Gronk is more hurt than we know.

Coach Bill Belichick acknowledged that Aaron Hernandez (ankle) "could be a game-time decision" Sunday, but also suggested the answer could come sooner.
Thanks for the 411, Bill. Beat writers noted that Hernandez's travel bag was packed and loaded with pads, suggesting the tight end will certainly be making the trip to Seattle. Hernandez was absent from the media-access portion of Friday's practice, though it could be due to the rainy conditions producing a wet field. Check back Friday afternoon for Hernandez's official injury designation.
